LITTLE SIMZ: Living LP
Projection Mapping · C-Type Print · Commissioned by Red Bull Studios & Little Simz
What does it mean to build an album that lives beyond the record sleeve?
Living LP was a projection-mapped artwork commissioned for the launch of Little Simz’s debut album at Red Bull Studios London. Twelve emerging visual artists were invited to reinterpret tracks from the record. This piece responded to the track “God Bless Mary”, translating its tone into a layered visual field that blended light, rhythm, and memory.

Technology
After Effects — for frame-by-frame animation and spatial sequencing of projected visuals
Processing — for generative texture overlays that responded to the track’s dynamics
VDMX — enabled real-time mapping and fine-tuning of projection to sculptural elements
C-Type Printing — to preserve and exhibit stills from the motion piece as physical artefacts
Process
The work began with deep listening — tracing the emotional and structural shifts in “God Bless Mary” as the foundation for visual rhythm. Using custom projection mapping, the piece animated textures across sculptural surfaces, evoking the personal themes of care, place, and reminiscence embedded in the song.
Still frames were later captured and printed as C-Type photographic works, offering a fixed echo of the live projection — an afterimage of light in motion.

Reflection
Living LP asked how music could move off the record and into spatial form — becoming something tactile, luminous, and time-based. It became a translation of sound into surface, mapping memory through projection and visual rhythm.
